Short on time? There are over 600 wineries in Napa and Sonoma so if you have a limited amount of time it can be hard to know where to start. Sometimes it’s just easier to get there quick and start sippin’! Here are four easy, fun wineries all within an hour drive from San Francisco.

Viansa Sonoma

Viansa is one of the closest wineries to the San Francisco,  just 33 miles away from the Golden Gate Bridge. The second you get out of the car at Viansa, you immediately step into another world. The property sits on top of a hill giving you views of the entire valley as you look north. You can sip some wine outside on the terrace where they have fresh wood-fired pizza and live music. We come here for here for the views but the inside doesn’t disappoint either. They have a fabulous tasting bar and a small little market if you want to pick out some goodies to pair with your wines. Expert tip – reserve one of the small gazebos just below the terrace in advance for an exclusive tasting experience.

Cline Sellars / Jacuzzi Family Vineyard

Just up the street from Viansa, you’ll find two sister wineries: Cline Cellars and Jacuzzi Family Vineyards. The best part about these two wineries is that they both offer FREE wine tastings. Cline is on the left-hand side of the road as you head north coming from San Francisco. They specialize in French-style wines and they offer free tours of the entire estate at 11am, 1pm & 3pm daily.

Jacuzzi (yes the same Italian Jacuzzi hot tub maker makes good wine too) is on the right side of the road and in addition to wine tasting, they also offer free olive oil tastings in the Olive Press store. What’s better than free olive oil and wine in the same place? Be sure to check out the impressive stone building the winery is housed in.

Larson Family Winery

Larson feels like home. We belonged to the wine club when  we lived in San Francisco, so it actually was our second home! We love this place because it’s laid back and casual- not something you find too often in Napa and Sonoma. We recommend doing your tasting outside but if you end of tasting inside, try to get Big Bob to serve you. He’ll absolutely make your day, we promise. Larson Family Winery’s tasting is fabulous. They offer a wide array of reds often paired with chocolate and delicious peanut brittle. Our favorite feature of Larson Family Winery is the back porch/ patio. The space has bocce courts and lots of picnic tables. If you have the time, we recommend bringing your own lunch and making a day out of your visit. If you are looking to stay overnight in wine country, they also have a beautiful, renovated farmhouse on the property that they rent out here.
